Classroom Etiquette
- An empty stomach will ensure you are more comfortable in class. Wait two to three hours after a meal or an hour after a light snack or drink. Avoid sipping water during class, but drink plenty afterwards.
- Dress should be comfortable. Wear lightweight and non-restrictive clothing and avoid accessories that could impede your movement.
- Arrive a few minutes early to introduce yourself to the teacher if it is your first class.
- Please remove your shoes at the entrance of the yoga studio.
- Turn off cell phones and pagers upon entering the studio!
- Before the start of each class, add your name to the sign-in sheet near the door. If you need to purchase a monthly pass or pay for a drop-in class please do so BEFORE class.
- Discuss any injuries with the teacher before the class begins so she can help you with the appropriate modifications and adjustments. If you are pregnant please notify the teacher.
- Purchase your own yoga mat. Kaya Yoga keeps some loaner mats for students who have forgotten theirs or who are not yet attending classes on a regular basis. However, it is more hygienic if we all have our own mats. You can always purchase one from the studio.
- Practice soucha. Please come to class with your body and clothing clean. Refrain from using strong, scented deodorants, perfumes, and hairsprays before class—such products can be difficult for people with allergies.
- Attend classes that are appropriate for your level of experience (please check our class descriptions for more information about class levels). If you bring a friend who is a beginner, please respect him/her by attending a Level 1 Class.
- Those having to leave early should do so before Savasana.
